Right, time to be motivated! Stop feeling down about your job, start feeling passionate and inspired to fulfil your potential! It’s time to change your mindset!
1. Remember Why You Chose This Role
Think back to when you applied for the job. Remember the mixture of nerves and excitement before your interview, or, remember researching the company you wished to be a part of? Think about why you originally applied for the role and what excited you about the position.
Although your job may be stressful and you might be lacking motivation now, remember all the positive and fun parts you enjoy and focus on these. Have a think about these questions:
- What motivates you to get up and go to work in the morning?
- What do you love about your job?
- Do you have great colleagues?
- Do you have the perfect work-life balance?
- Do you work in an ideal location?
- What is it about your job that you really enjoy?
Stop dwelling on the negatives and focus on the positives. The grass is not always greener!
2. Ask for More
If you want to get the most out of your job, why not start by asking for more… Switch things up and ask your manager if you can jump on a new task or ask for extra responsibilities!
A great way to feel inspired at work is to look for new opportunities and projects within the company. If your manager doesn’t have extra responsibilities to offer you now, they will appreciate your initiative and if they’re worth their salt should think of you for their next big project.
3. Get Involved
If you are lacking motivation and feeling uninspired, one of the best ways to overcome this is to spend more time around people. Make more of an effort with your colleagues. How about going for lunch, a coffee or offering to help a colleague with work. Alternatively get more involved by throwing yourself into work projects such as a charity event.
Spending time with people and helping others has been proven to have a direct impact on your happiness and well-being levels. Try organising a bake off, holding a quiz or organising a team night out. Before you decide to retreat to your desk from lunch, get involved and engage with your colleagues!
4. Set Yourself Goals
Work on your personal development by setting yourself challenging but achievable goals to stay motivated. Do you know exactly what is expected of you? What do you want to achieve in your career? What experience and skills do you want to gain from your job?
Write yourself a list of clearly defined and achievable career goals to keep you on track and motivated to reach your targets. This will give you a sense of purpose and act as a daily reminder of what you want to achieve.
